Axe is a strong and hardy strength Hero, infamously known to create chaos in the battle while gaining buffs in the process and commonly played as an initiating tank. He can force an enemy to attack him and endure a lot of attacks while countering them with a devastating strike that can bring more damage to his enemies than he usually takes, thus, items that give survivability is a must. Axe has been infamously known to finish off any weak fools with his ultimate when they are low on life.

Axe is one of the most simple Heroes in the game, offering burst damage potential and great survivability very early in a match. He is recommended for new players.

[edit] Bio

Axe Mogul Khan, the Axe
"No business but war. No family but death. No mercy but the grave!"
Role: Durable / Initiator / Disabler / Jungler
Lore: As a grunt in the Army of Red Mist, Mogul Khan set his sights on the rank of Red Mist General. In battle after battle he proved his worth through gory deed. His rise through the ranks was helped by the fact that he never hesitated to decapitate a superior. Through the seven year Campaign of the Thousand Tarns, he distinguished himself in glorious carnage, his star of fame shining ever brighter, while the number of comrades in arms steadily dwindled. On the night of ultimate victory, Axe declared himself the new Red Mist General, and took on the ultimate title of 'Axe.' But his troops now numbered zero. Of course, many had died in battle, but a significant number had also fallen to Axe's blade. Needless to say, most soldiers now shun his leadership. But this matters not a whit to Axe, who knows that a one-man army is by far the best.

[edit] Recommended Items

Explanation:

  • Ring of Health gives Axe even more survivability. Axe's base HP regen is 2hp/s, with Ring of Health he will have 7 hp/s which is incredibly powerful early into the game. It gives him a good lane presence and may cause the player to be perceived as threat.
  • Vanguard is almost always recommended, since Axe can then tank creep waves when he has it.
  • Blink Dagger should always picked up on Axe. It lets the player position himself in team fights or help chasing down enemy heroes. It helps the player make use of Axe's Berserker's Call and Culling Blade effectively.
  • Heart of Tarrasque increases Axe's health and health regeneration to the point where you never have return to the base after fights.
  • Blade Mail should be picked up if the enemy team has a lot of damage dealers. Axe with Blade Mail has the ability to kill off entire teams with their own damage. Blade Mail returns all damage and when used in conjunction with his Berserker's Call will make weaker heroes (for example Bounty Hunter or Riki) take a lot of damage.
  • Shiva's Guard is a luxury item for Axe. In team fights, it might become extremely useful as it allows the player to take even more damage due to the armor increase. If the player activates it, Shiva's Guard will slow the entire enemy team's movement speed and attack speed.

[edit] Tips

  • Items such as the Vanguard, Hood of Defiance and the Shiva's Guard are essential as they help reduce the damage being dealt to Axe while he tanks and initiates a battle.
  • Blink Dagger is a commonly built item to help with initiating as Axe.
  • During the starting and early phase of the game. Buy a Stout Shield, this cheap little item is effective enough to survive the lane. If necessary, instead of fighting along with your allied creeps, try to go and clash with the enemy creeps all by yourself in a safe enemy lane. Make sure you don't go to the path where the tower can see you. Your Counter Helix allows you to damage creeps fast.
  • While buying two Stout Shields can give you a much higher block chance than one, it is usually a bad idea to have more than two upgraded shields (Vanguard or Poor Man's Shield) as the benefits from stacking those two shields is far lower because of their cost.
  • Aghanim's Scepter can be purchased and will reduce the cooldown of his Culling Blade to an incredibly short 6 seconds, allowing you to quickly dispatch multiple enemy heroes as long as you have enough Mana and Health.
  • A more advance technique used by player is to max out Battle Hunger by Level 7. This enables Axe to constantly deal DPS (Damage Per Second) in the lane, dealing significant damage during early game. This comes with Axe capability to tank and keeping the enemy at bay, while stopping them from last hitting creeps or denying creep, which would let Battle Hunger deal its full damage.

[edit] Trivia

  • Axe's alternate/Fun name was "Mogul Kahnt Touch This" due to the consequences of his Counter Helix
