Broodmother is a melee agility Hero who is a notably powerful pusher. Her trademark spiderlings, as both an asset and a liability, define her play style. While a possible additional source of income, experience and lane pushes, spiderlings can easily feed opponents when not handled with deft micro and great awareness.
Broodmother, though provides easy positioning, requires micromanagement. She is a great hero for beginners to try the more difficult factors in the game. She is recommended for new to intermediate players.
Black Arachnia, the Broodmother
|
| "Like mother, like spiders."
|
| Role: |
Pusher / Carry / Escape
|
| Lore: |
For centuries, Black Arachnia the Broodmother lurked in the dark lava tubes beneath the smoldering caldera of Mount Pyrotheos, raising millions of spiderlings in safety before sending them to find prey in the wide world above. In a later age, the Vizier of Greed, Ptholopthales, erected his lodestone ziggurat on the slopes of the dead volcano, knowing that any looters who sought his magnetic wealth must survive the spider-haunted passages. After millennia of maternal peace, Black Arachnia found herself beset by a steady trickle of furfeet and cutpurses, bold knights and noble youths--all of them delicious, certainly, and yet tending to create a less than nurturing environment for her innocent offspring. Tiring of the intrusions, she paid a visit to Ptholopthales; and when he proved unwilling to discuss a compromise, she wrapped the Vizier in silk and set him aside to be the centerpiece of a special birthday feast. Unfortunately, the absence of the Magnetic Ziggurat's master merely emboldened a new generation of intruders. When one of her newborns was trodden underfoot by a clumsy adventurer, she reached the end of her silken rope. Broodmother headed for the surface, declaring her intent to rid the world of each and every possible invader, down to the last Hero if necessary, until she could ensure her nursery might once more be a safe and wholesome environment for her precious spiderspawn.

Black Arachnia continues to raise her young, even amidst the field of combat. The brood quickly learns how to support their mother.
|
|
Notes:
- Units from which the Spiderlings spawn leave no corpse on death.
- If the target is killed within 2 seconds of being hit by this skill, the Spiderlings will spawn.
- Units killed by Spiderlings will then give birth to Spiderites, smaller and less powerful versions of the Spiderlings.
- Will work on allied creeps and units when denying.

Weaving a bed of silken fibers, Arachnia's web both protects her and her offspring, as well as giving advancing opponents a sense of forboding.

- Also affects Spiderling and Spiderites.
- Destroys trees in the AoE when placed, but will grow back after the corresponding time (even if the web is still there).
- The web has a sight range of 150, during both day and night.
- The web does not prevent neutrals from spawning.
- If more webs are spawned than allowed, the oldest one will disappear.
- Spin Webs shows an icon on the minimap.

Explanation:

- Broodmother's Spin Web knocks down all trees in the radius of the ability. Use this to gain critical early-game vision in the long lane by casting your first web on the first patch of trees past the river.
- Going into a solo lane is a viable option for Broodmother as webs give her the survivability and the pushing power from the spiderlings can overwhelm a lane without need of her being babysat.
- Soul Ring is a great item to have on her as the instant mana boost gives her the ability to spawn more spiderlings and the HP regen from the webs can cover for the loss of HP from the Soul ring
- Going right into a Black King Bar is the best choice as the combo of magic immunity and the insane lifesteal from Insatiable hunger makes the Broodmother a force to be reckoned with in a fight.
- Casting Spin Web on top of an enemy tower makes it easy to dive in on weak heroes. The regen and movespeed bonus combined with Broodmother's slow is perfect for diving on heroes with no reliable escape or stun.
[edit] Trivia
- In her original biography, it was stated that the Broodmother had a crush on Anub'arak The Nerubian Assassin
- Broodmother's Fun/Alternate name was Broodmama.
