Chen the Holy Knight's standard gameplay is different than most other Heroes. Holy Persuasion lets him teleport threatened friendly units to his fountain, and also allows him to convert creeps to his side, including powerful neutral creeps. As a result, Chen is usually found in the forest searching for creeps to convert. When he finds a strong creep or two, he descends on his unwary enemies, using both his own spells and the abilities of his persuaded creeps to take them out. When ambushing enemies, Chen generally uses his Penitence ability, which slows the target and causes them to take extra damage from Chen's flock. Test of Faith can be used to finish off enemies. Chen's support abilities are rounded out by Hand of God, a healing spell which instantly restores a set amount of HP to all allied Heroes across the battlefield.
Due to the difficulty of effectively controlling multiple units and abilities, Chen can be a tricky hero to play to his full potential. Although Chen can be difficult for newer players, those who are skilled at controlling multiple units will find him very powerful. He is recommended for advanced players.

| Lore: |
Born in the godless Hazhadal Barrens, Chen came of age among the outlaw tribes who eked out an existence in the shimmering heat of the desert. Using an ancient form of animal enthrallment, Chen’s people husbanded the hardy desert locuthi, a stunted species of burrowing dragon that melted desert sands into tubes of glass where twice-a-year rains collected. Always on the edge of starvation and thirst, fighting amongst their neighbors and each other, Chen’s clan made the mistake, one fateful day, of ambushing the wrong caravan.
In the vicious battle that followed, Chen’s clan was outmatched. The armored Knights of the Fold made short work of the enthralled locuthi, who attacked and died in waves. With their dragons dead, the tribesmen followed. Chen struggled, and slashed, and clawed, and perished—or would have. Defeated, on his knees, he faced his execution with humility, offering his neck to the blade. Moved by Chen’s obvious courage, the executioner halted his sword. Instead of the blade, Chen was given a choice: death or conversion. Chen took to the faith with a ferocity. He joined the Fold and earned his armor one bloody conversion at a time. Now, with the fanaticism of a convert, and with his powers of animal enthrallment at their peak, he seeks out unbelievers and introduces them to their final reward.

| Although they may not be knights, Chen incorporates beasts into the Fold in the same way he himself was converted.

Notes:
- You can take control of any neutral creep except Ancient-type neutrals (Dragonspawn, etc.).
- When persuading a new creep above your max unit count, a random persuaded unit (which could be the one you just persuaded) will die.
- Using on a friendly Pudge while he's hooking an enemy will drag them all the way to the fountain, killing them nigh instantly.

Explanation:
- Ring of Basilus is a must for Chen since it improves his creeps' tankiness for jungling and lets them regenerate mana without going back to the fountain. Wards or courier are a better choice for a first buy, however, since Chen doesn't need items to have an efficient jungle.
- Arcane Boots are also the best boots for Chen, as they help in sustaining your creeps mana and supporting allies as well.
- You should always try to get Mekanism as it helps in teamfights and is great for pushing towers.
- The rest of the items are optional, as Chen is not item independent (even without the above he can keep his presence in a match, though it's more difficult) so dont worry about using gold on buying wards as that's the best thing you can do for your team.
|
- You should try to end the game as soon as possible as Chen gets weaker as the game goes on.
- Chen is a good jungler and can take any camp at lvl1 if you skill Holy Persuasion.
- While jungling, don't be too selective about the creeps. Just persuade the higher lvl ones in the large creep camps and persuade others if they are on low HP.
- Try to keep your creeps group in a Hotkey (select your creeps and press Ctrl+1, so everytime you press 1 you select your creeps) and also have another hotkey for both creeps and Chen.
- Always try to send in your creeps while keeping Chen at a safe distance (dont send him in the middle of a battle with your creeps) and keep an eye on him and his hp while controlling the creeps.
- Always try to keep an eye on the minimap in case you have to use Hand of God to heal a teammate.
- For jungling, it's useful to have a Satyr Hellcaller, as it makes your creeps regenerate HP faster and can use an AoE spell.
- For ganking, it's very useful to have at least a Centaur Khan / Ursa Warrior (for the stomp stun/slow) and a Troll Warlord (for the Ensnare so the centaur can get positioned)
- You can have guaranteed ganks at lvl 1 or 2 if you get either a Centaur Khan or an Ursa Warrior and your ally has some stun/slow
- For pushing, it's very useful to have either Satyr Hellcallers (with their nuke they take down creep waves easily), an Enraged Wildkin (it's Tornado takes down creeps fast) or even Centaur Khans (they are tanky)
- For team battles, Centaur Khans are the best option, as they can keep the enemies stunned for up to 6 seconds.
- In team battles, try to use your Mekansm (if you have it) before Hand of God as it gives an armor boost too.
- Try to use either Mekansm or Hand of God when all your allies are damaged to maximize the healing, rather than just healing a damaged ally while the rest are with full hp.
- Try to kill Roshan around level 6-7 since your creeps can tank it very well and you can instant heal them with your ultimate.
- If the game keeps going on until late game (which you should avoid and try to finish the game fast) you should persuade an Alpha Wolf, and make it follow your carry, as it will greatly increase his/her damage dealt.
